The Need

In an evolving compendia landscape, in which existing and new product indications are constantly updated and modified, it is important to monitor how listings shift by product per compendium, and the impact these changes have on patient access to therapies. For our client—a large pharmaceutical manufacturer with a robust oncology portfolio and pipeline spanning across multiple therapeutic areas—the challenge was to track indication changes on both a detailed level and routine basis, for not only its own oncology products, but also those of its competitors.

The Xcenda Solution

Xcenda has collaborated with the client over the past 6 years on a long-term, ongoing compendia surveillance initiative:

  • Each month Xcenda produces a spreadsheet that provides detailed mark-ups of all updates to the indications of approximately 15 products

  • Depending on the shifts in the market (new competitor entrant, generic substitution), the compendia surveillance list of products also adjusts accordingly

  • In conjunction with each spreadsheet, Xcenda delivers a summary of findings and implications for the client

The Outcome

  • The client's reimbursement hotline team used the information as a tool for calls regarding off-label compendia use

  • The client's clinical teams used the information to keep track of competitor listings and determine if new studies needed to be planned
