Oncologist Insights Related to Myeloma

According to ACS Cancer Facts and Figures for 2009, there were approximately 20,580 new cases of myeloma diagnosed last year in the United States. Smoldering myeloma is a slow-growing precursor of traditionally defined multiple myeloma. Over the last several decades, it has come into its own as a distinct entity with implications for careful follow-up and decision making about initiation of therapy. According to an Xcenda survey of 125 hematology-oncology physicians in January/February 2010 who participate in the NOCR network, 55% correctly identified the international consensus criteria for diagnosing “smoldering myeloma.” View more survey results related to myeloma…

Healthcare Reform Update

The Senate failed this week to pass a tax extenders bill that would include another temporary fix to the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) issue which continues to pose a 21% fee cut threat for physician reimbursement under Medicare.  Thus, it appears that physicians are now at risk of having claims paid at the lower amount starting next week.  Read full article...
