Engagement of healthcare payers in innovative contracts for pharmaceuticals has grown substantially over the past several years with engagement only expected to increase. When designed and implemented appropriately, innovative contracts can be a successful strategy to increase patient access, improve outcomes, and manage costs. There are many types of innovative contracts, from outcomes-based contracts to subscription models. The challenge remains how to effectively tailor the contract design to the product and therapeutic area.
